There aren’t many door knockers that come around my area, but when they do it can be funny.
Some Jehovah’s witness came to the door a couple of days ago and i answered. They started by saying, "There’s a lot of bad stuff in the world at the moment isn’t there?". I replied affirmitavley. They went on to read a passage from the bible and continue with their information. I was then asked if i was religious. I said, "No…", they looked at me blankly, and i continued, "Each to their own".
They were around the same age as me and didn’t seem to disturbed by the fact i declined being a member of a religion. They didn’t continue with a religious spiel, instead started to talk about my dog which was trying to get all the attention.
I don’t have anything against people being a member of a religion, as long as they don’t have a problem with me not being a member of one. Once they start pushing it on me, there’s an issue.
They did give me a pamphlet in the hope i’d read it and become interested. I accepted the pamphlet to be nice, later realising that if this was the thing to make me change my mind, they went about it all wrong.
I don’t paritcularly want to get involved in a big religious debate, but the way i see it religions are basically a large business organisation. Coca Cola, McDonalds, etc. are also large business organisations, and the way they get people in is with great advertising.
This is the advertising/promotional material i was given by the religious door knockers.
Perhaps this appeals to some, i know for sure it doesn’t appeal to me. Everything about it is boring. It’s all so bland, the wall colours, the lamp, the stack of books, the guys hair and facial expression. I laugh each time i examine it.
At least he’s wearing a pin-stripe suit.
How can you expect people to even go past the cover page when it looks this un-exciting? I mean if he was holding a big cigar and a glass of cognac, it might be a bit more appealing.
