Over the last few months i’ve noticed quite a few referrals from a variety of different forums that i haven’t visited or posted on before.
That’s not the issue though. When i visit the forums to see what’s being discussed to refer to my site i find that someone on the forum named Mick is claiming this site as their own. That’s wrong for many reasons.
The first time it happened i turned a blind eye, the next time i contacted the forum admin and they assured me that it was just a mistake as the user claiming micksworld.com actually had micksworld.co.uk.
Even though i think there’s enough key strokes between ‘m‘ and ‘.uk‘, they didn’t seem to pick up on it. Fine, mistakes are made.
Since then there have been an increasing number of visits from a member of various forums named Mick, not just displaying the link in his sig, but saying, “check out my site micksworld.com”. How can you make that many typos?
It’s not that i mind people visiting from the forums, i just don’t want it to be under false pretense.
Anyway, if you have been referred here by that guy, let him know that he’s typing the wrong address each time.
If he’s doing it intentionally and he’s trying to claim it as his own, check the specs. I’m sure his profile will be different to mine.

I would normally say that these are honest mistakes, but the same think has happened to me more than one. I even got a thank you email from a site I had never been to before.
I’m not concerned too much about what happened or what the results are, but I’m concerned about the motivation. Could this just be a person or people looking to prop us up? Could it be something more nefarious? Will we ever know?

Yeah i thought the first time that it was an honest mistake. Then it happened a second time. I passed it off as someone continually mis-typing.
After a few times though i just can’t see how someone can be making the mistake. I don’t know whether they’re trying to claim it as their own or give me props. That’s why i wrote this post so that whoever is referred will notice that it could be with the wrong intentions.
You can contact me through this site and then ask them what was in the message, if they can’t confirm then they ain’t me.
I do write on some forums, so i don’t want people to think that it’s not me when it is and vice versa.
